Dubai Tram

Dubai Tram is a modern street level rail system developed by RTA Dubai, connecting Dubai Marina, JBR, Al Sufouh, Media City, Knowledge Village, and Palm Jumeirah, with seamless interchanges to the Dubai Metro and the Palm Monorail.

History

About Dubai Tram

Dubai Tram was planned as part of Dubai’s long-term public transport strategy to support high-density waterfront developments and reduce car dependency along the Marina JBR corridor. Construction contracts and system technology were announced in the late 2000s, introducing several world-first features for a modern tram network.

The system officially opened to passengers in November 2014, becoming the first tramway outside Europe to operate without overhead power lines and the first globally to use platform screen doors at open-air tram stations.
