Dubai Metro Blue Line

Dubai’s Next Major Metro Expansion Connecting Emerging Communities

History

About Dubai Metro Blue Line

The Dubai Metro Blue Line was first envisioned during the early planning stages of Dubai’s metro network as a long-term expansion to support the city’s continuous urban growth. Initial concepts emerged in the mid 2000s, with the goal of extending rail connectivity beyond the original metro corridors and accommodating future residential and mixed-use developments across eastern Dubai.

In November 2023, the Dubai Metro Blue Line was officially approved as part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and redesigned as a strategic urban transit corridor. Construction began in 2025 under the supervision of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), with the line scheduled to open in 2029, enhancing connectivity between emerging communities, education hubs, and existing metro lines while supporting Dubai’s long-term mobility and sustainability objectives.

The Dubai Metro Blue Line follows a strategic east–west and north–south corridor designed to connect emerging residential districts with Dubai’s existing metro network. The line begins at Creek Station (Green Line) in Al Jaddaf, crosses Dubai Creek, and continues through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Ras Al Khor, before serving International City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Dubai Academic City.

A secondary branch extends north from International City toward Al Warqa and Mirdif, terminating at Centrepoint Station (Red Line) in Al Rashidiya. Through these two interchange stations, the Blue Line integrates seamlessly with the Red and Green Lines, enabling direct access to key destinations such as Downtown Dubai, Dubai International Airport, and major business districts. The route has been planned to support high-density growth areas while reducing travel times and improving citywide connectivity.
